Wash-house in the basement

Margit told me that they have a vegetable patch in the backyard. There growed potatoes, carrots, peas and beans. And they also have fruit trees like apples, pears and plums.
I the basement was a butlery where they stored the fruits and the vegetables. They used to cook jam and made preservings. Margit´s father Ernst was hunting and fishing in his sparetime, so they got  both meat and fish.
All washing was taking care of in the wash-house in the basement. There were a big laundry zink under which you had to make a fire in order to get hot water. Then they have to carry the wet laundry all the way up to the attic, where it should dry up.
Today I show you a photo of Margit and her mother Gerda.
