I must say that I´m a little bit confused over the fact that Ernst learnt to mangle bed sheets by his mother. He told us how he used to go to the mangle shed together with Hilma. When he was too young to wind the mangle he fold the handkerchiefs. Ernst even liked the smell from white sheets and towels. And he called mangling for "a man´s doing". He must had been some unusual for this period.
Perhaps Hilma was a very foresighted woman. I remember that my grandpa Ernst often helped my grandma Gerda with the housework. Ernst could peel potatoes and do the dishes in like manner he was hunting or fishing.
